Doing the Freedom Dance

I'm done with work. I'm happy. I'm free!

I need to clean my apartment and load up my car. *sad face*

It's weird, but I may never actually see my boss again. She's been a great boss and a good friend, but I don't have any reason to come back to this place. That's kind of weird--not that I thought I would see her again when I left the last time. Well, actually, I did come for visits before, but that's when I had a few friends here too. Everyone is gone now.

I need to clean the bird cage and drop it off at Goodwill tomorrow morning. I thought about doing it this afternoon, but I'd rather lounge.

Right now, I'm reading SOPA, the Stop Online Piracy Act. People are talking about it as if it will censor our freedom of speech. I'm not sure about that since the first line says that this bill isn't allowed to make any changes that would restrict our freedom of speech. I'm not saying people won't use this bill to try, but I think any judge in the nation will exercise caution before upholding anything that might remotely compromise freedom of speech. I do think that this bill demonstrates how much the policies of our nation are being shaped by corporations rather than the people. For that reason, this bill scares me. It does give more power to corporations, and I think they have more than enough since most haven't demonstrated much interest in doing what's right for the larger population. Social justice isn't high up on their concerns.

I used to read legislation rather than take seriously anything I heard about a bill. I haven't done that in a while, so I'm doing it now. I used to get great science fiction ideas from reading legislation too. I still remember reading a failed women's rights bill from the 60s, and it would have been a great jumping off point for a speculative fictional world. I'm sure at the time women felt like they'd been denied something important, but from what I remember, the world have been a weird and scary place shaped by the ideas of that bill.

Back to SOPA and perhaps a nap. Going out for a beer and fries with my boss later. She's a bit stressed, so we're going to work on her resume. I think she'd like to be as free from the job as I now am.

Let's Catch Some Night Crawlers

So it's free fishing weekend in Colorado. I think it might be in Kansas, too. That means you can go fishing without a fishing license this weekend. You do still have to pay attention to bagging limits and other restrictions, but meh...no big deal. Who wants to fish that long anyway?

So my boss is planning on going fishing with her son, and she asked the aquatic researcher, Anita, who is in the office next to us what Anita recommends for catching perch.

Anita said night crawlers. She told my boss to water her lawn really well, and then go out at night with a flashlight to catch them. The trick is not to shine the light on them directly. Just use the oustide edge of the light, where it is weak. You have to be fast, but she says they are the best bait.

So, if you're in CO or maybe KS, go fishing.
