Pizza and Fetch...now that's a holiday weekend!

With three days off work to look forward to, I'm not sure what I'm going to do all alone with my cat. Kinda thinking I should have driven home yesterday after work.

So what have I planned instead? I'm not sure. This morning I did an hour of kickboxing. Now I'm watching TV and playing fetch with my cat.

For dinner, I am going to order a pizza, play more fetch with cat, and  solve a mystery game on the Wii.  I borrowed it from my boss's 13-year-old son.

At some point I'm going to work on my novel, do some sketching, and read. It's going to be a long and tedious weekend. :(

Return of the Interwebs!

I have the internet again, so I checked my facebook and sent emails and all of those sorts of things.

But mostly, I watched Futurama on Netflix because that's what one does after a long day at work.

Saturday maybe I will start working on my novel...maybe.

Week 1 of Being an Adult...again.

So I'm an "adult" again. I work 8 hour days. Well actually I worked 9 hours days this week and got off at noon today, but it all works out the same.

I'm gonna be a lot less bored at work this time around, I think. We're transferring our site to a new content management system, and it's going to be a bit insane. Good news is, I have a good shot at being approved for overtime, which means I can make this job worthwhile. Working overtime won't seem hard at all after grad school.

Of course, if I work too much, chances are slim that I will finish my novel while I am here. I need to not lose sight of that priority.

Also, I got an apartment by the park and some tennis courts. It's a nice place to go running, and maybe I can find a tennis friend. That should be good. My neighbors on either side are a blind lady and an old man with short term memory loss. Hooray for quiet neighbors?

I already found a hiking buddy through work, and she invited me to a poetry reading yesterday too. Yay for prospective good friends.

Now I just need to get my own internet access.

Having a Place to Sleep

I have been generously granted a spare room at some family friends about 30 minutes from my job. It's a comfortable bed where I crashed last night for post grad school catchup sleep--7:00pm to 5:45am. And they feed me dinner and breakfast. They would probably feed me lunch too, but I bought my own to avoid that.

Futhermore, they have a wonderful cat and a donkey. There's also peach orchards everywhere and vineyards and the most beautiful view of the mesas. Palisade, CO is literally the most amazing place I have ever been. My daily commute is stunning.

I did find a place to live. Saturday I move into a crappy apartment, but I will have my cat back. I should also be able to ride my bike to work. Once I'm in my own place, I will be able to work out again, too. I'll also be able to establish a firmer internet presence. Hogging someone elses computer just isn't right.

I should go read. Peace at last. No fun, though. :(

Homelessness...A Good Choice

So, I was really, really stressed out by the fact that people didn't want to rent to me without me seeing the places. It was impossible for me to visit with school, but I think it worked out okay.

If I had a place to live, I'd be sleeping on the floor with a sleeping bag looking forward to a whole day of unpacking.

Because I have no place, I instead get to stop by my parents' and spend the night. I get to chill in the morning, and I can leave for Grand Junction around lunch. I will get to sleep in a bed tomorrow night and go to work properly rested.

It's a much better way to go about everything I think. The only downside is a week without my cat. :(

...and I had to leave all my friends behind. Goodbye grad school.

Blergh, starting over....again. Oh well.

Later today, I get to have tea with the keynote speaker for graduate commencement, Gail McClure. Tea is always nice--English Departments are classy, especially at Kansas State U.

I've been working on finals so I hadn't read through her resume until this morning. When I read the following line, I fell in love:

"Intermittent Expert, National Science Foundation, Education and Human Resources Arlington, VA. Provide strategic design and guidance to staff and administration related to STEM education" (emphasis mine)

Also, if you don't know what STEM is, it's an education program for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.

I really enjoyed making those letters excessively large.

Okay, it's time to get to work. I need to take Naomi's final this morning, and do some grading before I have tea with someone so cool I will be too scared to talk. Awesome.
